Why isn't an expired domain accessible right after renewal?
After you pay the renewal invoice for a domain that was already in quarantine or right at the edge of expiring, a short interval may pass before the site or email are fully working again, for a few reasons:
- processing at the registry — reactivating the domain at RoTLD, EURid, or another registry isn't always instant; it can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the extension;
- negative caching on other DNS servers — while the domain was inaccessible, other DNS servers on the internet temporarily cached the information that the domain "doesn't exist" or "doesn't respond"; this information expires after a while (usually under 24 hours) and is then refreshed;
- your own browser's cache — your browser or computer may still be holding onto a previously shown error page or expiration message.
If, 24 hours after payment is confirmed, the domain still isn't working correctly, contact us through the support section for a check.
