Why can't some services be refunded?
Under Romanian consumer protection law (Emergency Ordinance no. 34/2014, which transposes EU Directive 2011/83 on consumer rights), you generally have the right to withdraw from an order placed online within 14 days, without having to justify your decision.
This right of withdrawal does not apply, however, to services that have already been fully performed, with your prior express consent and your acknowledgment that you lose the right of withdrawal once performance begins — under Art. 16(a) of Ordinance 34/2014 — nor to digital content or services supplied other than on a tangible medium, whose performance is irreversible once it has started — under Art. 16(m).
Why registering a domain can't be refunded
Registering, renewing, or transferring a domain is processed automatically, almost instantly, at the corresponding registry (EURid for .eu, RoTLD for .ro, or another registry depending on the extension), as soon as payment is confirmed. From that moment, the domain is allocated in your name in the registry's database, and EUReg has already paid the corresponding fee to the top-level domain operator — the service is considered fully performed and can no longer be undone at a technical level.
That's why registration, renewal, or transfer fees are non-refundable from the moment the operation was started at the registry, regardless of whether you change your mind afterward (see How do I give up a domain?).
Other services performed immediately
The same logic applies to any service that involves an irreversible action, triggered automatically once payment is confirmed:
- bids placed in the domain backorder section — a winning bid triggers an attempt to register the domain, and the bid placed must be honored (see Changing your bid);
- intermediation and payment fees on EUReg Marketplace, charged for transactions already completed through the Escrow service (see Escrow service).
What's still refundable
If a payment was made by mistake and the corresponding order hasn't been processed at the registry yet (for example you paid a proforma invoice with the wrong details, before the domain was actually registered), contact us as soon as possible through the support section — within this short window, a correction or a refund is usually possible.
