My domain isn't working – a DNS troubleshooting checklist
If a domain (or its associated email) isn't working, check the following, in order:
- Is the domain active? Check your EUReg customer account to see if the domain is expired or in quarantine (see Why is my domain name in quarantine?).
- Are the nameservers correct? Check the domain's details to see which nameservers are set — if you recently switched hosting providers, the nameservers might still point to the old one.
- Has enough time passed since a recent change? If you changed the nameservers or a DNS record recently, keep the normal propagation times in mind (see How long does nameserver propagation take? and How long does it take for DNS changes to propagate?).
- Does the correct DNS record exist? Check the domain's DNS zone for an A (or CNAME) record for the name you're accessing (e.g.
www), with the correct value. - Local cache. Clear your computer's DNS cache or try from a different network/device — sometimes propagation is complete, but your computer has cached outdated information.
- Check from the outside. Use an online DNS lookup tool to see what other servers around the world see, not just your own computer.
If the problem persists after these checks, contact us through the EUReg support section — mention which steps you've already checked, for a faster resolution.
