What do the different statuses of a domain being transferred mean?

During a domain transfer between agents, the domain goes through several statuses usually shown in the customer account. The most common are:

  • Pending — the transfer has been started and is waiting for confirmation from the holder and/or the current registrar;
  • Approved by holder — the holder has confirmed the transfer (for example via the confirmation email automatically sent by the registry);
  • Rejected — the current registrar or the holder rejected the transfer, usually because of an incorrect transfer code, an active transfer lock on the domain, or a data mismatch;
  • Completed — the transfer finished successfully, and the domain is now managed by the new agent;
  • Expired/Cancelled — the waiting period (usually 5-7 days for generic extensions, under ICANN policy) passed without confirmation, and the transfer was automatically cancelled.

You can track the current status of a transfer started through EUReg directly from your customer account, in the orders/domains section.
