Can I transfer a domain that's close to its expiration date?
Yes, but with some caution. Many registries forbid or restrict transfers in the last few days before expiration, precisely to avoid a domain ending up not renewed in time while a transfer is still being processed.
We recommend starting the transfer at least 2-3 weeks before the expiration date, to leave enough time for the process (which can take anywhere from a few hours to 5-7 days, depending on the extension) to finish without the risk of the domain entering quarantine.
For .ro domains, a transfer does not reset the validity period — the expiration date stays the same as before the transfer, and renewal must be done separately, regardless of which agent manages the domain.
