Can I transfer a domain that has already expired?

It depends on the domain's current stage:

• if the domain is expired but still active (before actually entering quarantine), a transfer is usually possible, but it must be renewed first — most registries don't allow transferring a domain with an unpaid renewal invoice;
• if the domain has already entered quarantine (see What happens when a domain is deleted?), a regular transfer is no longer possible — the domain must first be reactivated by the current registrar, by paying the reactivation fee, before it can be transferred;
• if the domain has already been permanently deleted from the Registry, the only option is to register it again as a new domain, on a first-come, first-served basis, potentially through EUReg's domain backorder service.
